About a week ago the girls complained one time too many about dinner. As a result we followed through with an oft repeated threat to have Kraft Mac and Cheese every night for a week (I think we originally threatened a month--but a week was long enough.) The first night I made three packages to feed our family. We had some leftovers but not much. By the last night I made one box and our family of six just couldn't finish one package.
I did not expect to grow so sick of Kraft Mac and Cheese so fast. There were some positives about the whole Mac and Cheese experiment. The deal was that if anyone complained about dinner they had to eat an extra night of Mac and Cheese. It was really refreshing to have complaint-free dinners. Also, I had a lot more time each evening because I didn't really have to make dinner. We also we saved money. By the end we fed the whole family for less than a dollar. But I never want to see Kraft Mac and Cheese again.

I can't believe that worked. My daughter loves Kraft Mac and Cheese and always requests if for her birthday since we don't generally eat processed foods.
Kellie,
So many people have said the same thing not that they don't eat processed foods but that their kids love Kraft Mac. First, my oldest is a bit of a food snob--hence all the complaining--and detests Kraft Mac. I think her word for it is "nasty." Zoey is your average kid and likes the stuff but after two nights in a row she grew tired of it. The boys didn't seem to mind but they never complain. Still, I don't know if a week of Kraft Mac made any difference other than leaving us with a funny memory. Ruth
Luckily, we never eat mac and cheese because of Abe and Helen. I suppose I could use quinoa pasta and soy cheese, but with all the work involved, I might as well cook something that tastes good. Very funny story.
Knowing your children and husband- I'm sure they thought it was the worst week of their lives. I cannot imagine Bill happily eating Mac and Cheese for an entire week for dinner. I especially love that you took a picture with him in his Sonny Bryant's shirt. Obviousy he knows good food!
I am very proud of you that you followed through with the whole thing. I would have made the kiddos eat the Mac and Cheese and would have taken full advantage of cooking all he fun foods I LOVE!
I love it! Now, if only something like that would work with Nate...

What a funny idea for a fun family experiment. I must confess, though, that secretly I really like boxed Mac and Cheese (although I've only tried the "Western Family" kind). Glad I found your blog, Mitchells!
I could never get sick of Mac and Cheese. Just make sure there are cut up hot dogs in it.
