I am jealous of myself

What am I doing in Time's Square? That's what I keep asking myself. Just a few days ago I was expecting just another week of laundry and dishes and nagging children about homework. Wednesday night Bill told me that we were flying to Boston Friday morning and we'd be traveling for 9 days. The rest of the trip was a secret. I had a few moments of shock and I worried that I couldn't really leave my kids and primary but I soon adjusted to the idea and realized everyone would be just fine without me.

After flying into Boston and spending the night in Providence we drove to New York City and had a great time visiting with my old friend Marin. Some of the highlights were:

Boating in Central Park

Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge

and--Bill's favorite--the American Girl Store.

Monday night we drove to Albany to visit more old friends Chame and Jonathan Blackburn.

We got our kid fix with the Blackburns. They have almost a matching family to ours. Two girls, two boys all practically the same age. We also got to see something we never see in San Diego:

Fall

Bill planned this trip nearly a year ago. He arranged babysitting (thank you so much Lara and Tauna), booked flights, and secretly contacted old friends. He is usually your typical not-so-romantic husband (this year he completely blew off Valentine's), which makes all of this an even greater surprise. And there are still three more days of surprises. I don't even know where I'm going today. I'll keep you posted. --Ruth

P.S. John, I took this picture of a cannon at Sarotoga just for you. Mom

Oh fun for you! I am jealous of the trip (and strangely we almost went to NYC last weekend and may have been there when you were!)
I love the boating in Central Park and the fall leaves pic. Very fun!

Well Bill, the secret is out....you are capable. Now you can never forget a birthday, Valentine's Day and even your anniversary, No EXUSES! Ruth, of course we miss you. BTW we have changed the primary program around and it will be Nov 2. You just go ahead and enjoy every minute of being kidless and keep taking more of those beautiful pictures! I was just kidding about the primary date, we did it last week :)

I'm jealous of you, too! That is such an awesome thing to do. And I started thinking when is my hubby going to surprise me like that. But then, I thought, when's the last time I've surprised him like that? Hmm. . .

Hmmm, you drove past my house...twice. No, I'm not offended, just sad that you didn't know how I would have welcomed your visit and fed you and whatever else you could have needed so far from home. I guess there's always next time...and then, you could bring the kids and they could have one big, crazy cousin playdate.

You look like you're having fun. What a great husband you have. I was anxious to hear as Txgirl told me about the wonderful surprise and I was wondering how Bill was going to pull it off but according to Txgirl you were surprised. Enjoy....

Ruth - I need to know more! I got a teaser through Google REader that had pictures of a hot air balloon?! But when I went to your site the post was gone. I need more. This sounds like the best trip ever! Not only is it just good because of where you went, but all of Bill's secret surprise (and romantic) planning, and, holy cow, a HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE!
