This family may not be cut out for politics

This morning all the candidates came to school early for breakfast. Just before school starts, Mr. Todd uncovers the white board with the winners names on it. Zoey was so nervous she turned her back before he uncovered the board. We watched from outside and saw some kids jump up and down. Immediately one girl ran out and kept running, ignoring her mom. I couldn't see Zoey. Other kids, mostly sad looking kids, came out of the bungalow. We could see Zoe through the window. Malachi's mom said, "Zoey looks happy." Malachi came out looking somber. Soon Zoe came out and said in disbelief, "I won."

Lizzy teared up, not because she was so happy for her sister but because she felt bad for Malachi. I have to admit I felt bad too--like we had stolen the election from him with our Z buttons and stickers and our glitter t-shirts.

You'll be glad to know that after my walk home my winner's remorse was replaced with mother's pride. I put on my vote for Zoe t-shirt and went grocery shopping. A mother I recognize but had never talked to told me that both of her kids voted for Zoe. She asked if election results were out yet. I told her Zoe won and she cheered.

Congratulations, Zoe!! This is a very sweet recap of the morning. I do think glitter is a magic ingredient in elementary school election success. I had cool glitter posters the year I won for secretary.

Hip hip hooray! Nobody I voted for this year won, so it's nice to know that someone I would have voted for if I could did.

Not a bad thing to be too nice for politics.

Wahoo! Congrats Zoey! You will do an amazing job. We are definitely sorry for Malachi (and everyone else, but I just don't know them), but thrilled for you! Hooray!

Yay! I was worried with the vote split - elementary kids can be so predictable - but way to go Zoey! You'll do a great job.

President Zoey!!!
Congratulations to you and your campaign workers. Be sure to save one of those Z shirts for your "hope chest". Your children will be interested in your first campaign.
You are wonderful.
I love you!
Grandpa Ken
